I have recently recieved some error messages from php mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource.
These have been caused by someone trying to add the below urls to a get variable added as a query to the url i.e. http://www.url.com/index.php?getvariable=
So it appears that someone is trying to get access where they are not supposed to.
Any clarification, and any way to expose the Perpetrator appreciated.

You have a bug in your script. A bot is trying to exploit your script. These two are not necessarilly related.
