A Neat CAPTCHA

Discussions of secure PHP coding. Security in software is important, so don't be afraid to ask. And when answering: be anal. Nitpick. No security vulnerability is too small.

A Neat CAPTCHA

Post by kaisellgren »

Hello,

Have anyone noticed the new CAPTCHA that MegaUpload uses? That's pretty neat!

At first look it seems hard to read, but when you "get the idea", it is actually simple for a human being to read it. However, for bots it does make some headache.

Basically, when two shapes collide, the area that collided will invert the color. After that, then the borders of each shape will be drawn as black. That's pretty much what it does.

I like it. If we could add some distortion, skew, noise, a color model as well as some random positioning, that might become pretty good.

I believe that there are a good chunk of people who don't have the ability to read that.
