Re: Opinions on software market commissions

I think 50% is more than acceptable, for what it's worth.

I have been involved in a couple of desktop software projects developed in C#, and to save time we bought a number of .Net components off the shelf. Really good stuff, in my opinion, and the time it saved us was considerable.

In each case we went through ComponentSource and they seem to offer a service similar to what you are proposing, albeit their focus is on .Net, Delphi (VCL), Java and C++.

This thread sparked my interest and I looked at their programme for developers. Basically they take 40% of each sale, but there is also an annual fee (from $1,000 to $25,000 depending on the scale of a developer's operation). With that in mind, I think a flat 50% percentage would certainly be worthwhile if sales are effectively guaranteed.

Thanks for the input and information, greyhound. I'm taking a look at ComponentSource right now, good to know more relevant comparisons :)
