I have been thinking lately about creating a web application which allows coders and internet marketers to safely trade. There have been times when people do not "pay up" on random scripting projects.

What are your thoughts about a website where a coder uploads a finished project or section for approval. Then the marketer or person that hired the coder could view a private demo for the project. If he accepts the work it would send him to a paypal link where he could pay for it. Once he pays for it he has the option to Download the code or have the website installer do it automatically. First option would be self explanitory and the second one would involve him putting in his FTP information and a php script would automatically upload the purchased website to his hosting folder specified.

Once the client/marketer paid for the project and payment was detected the money would automatically be sent to the coders paypal account or would be stored on their online account where they could manually transfer it to their paypal account.

What do you guys think? Any comments or ideas which would make it better? I wouldn't be amazed if this has already been done hundreds of times, anyone know of sites that currently do this?

I myself would use a script like this but if there aren't many people using it there would be no point. The whole idea behind the program would be to have a 3rd party source that can be trusted and reliable. The easiest way of expressing that feel is by populartity and use.

Would you guys use a script like that? It would probably be free or if not that then there would be a like %2 charge or something around those lines. If there was a charge since the programmer is the one setting up the project on the site they would be able to choose who pays the charge whether it be him or the client.

I basically do this already with clients, so I'm not sure what benefit it'd give me.. I guess for me it'd come down to ease of use and control I have over the demo area..

I would imagine if you built it, and got a bunch of these marketers to use it for their transactions, then it'd increase in usage.. Kind of a Field of Dreams scenario..

ya, I myself would use it because it gives the client a chance to view exactly what their getting before they pay for it.

I think this is a great idea...

Risk would be lessened for clients and contractors. I think it's good for clients and web developers who stand by their product. Some of those eLance-type sites may not like it though!

the trick is to save a copy of all the coder's work. after that you can resell it :p

It's a good idea -sounds like a script escrow service.

I have a similar idea for sub work for developers. On another forum I visit we have a forum bank whereby we can buy forum bucks to buy stuff from the forum like glowing nics or even stuff from other forum members. I guess you could call them barter bucks . . .

Back to topic, I think the script escrow service would work but the operator of such a site would have to do it for profit because there would be much involved, and lots of headaches I would imagine.
