It's going to be with us for a long, long time. Just look at the spec for PHP 6 .. it's going to be incredible.

I think the next couple of months/years will critical for the future of php (wait a minute, isn't that true for all programming languages/environments?)

For me, widely available support for unicode (thus not as some extension) and a freely available advanced ide are key factors to success...
