hi, i was just wondering what is the meaning of impressions when it comes to internet advertising...i am seeing CPM(cost per thousand impressions)..what could that impressions mean?is it when you have a site, then u have an ad banner, the moment the viewer of the site saw the advertisement, is that already an impression??or does it have to be clicked(the banner ad) before it became an impression...anyone can enlighten mo on this...thnanks. :)

haha! thanks feyd, i went through some of the those links but confuses me more..

i got this definition:
Impression:
Also called an ad or page impression. The display of a single creative to a visitor on a website. A single page view can have more than one impression if both banners and buttons are used.
so, am i corect in saying that whenever a page is viewed and the ad banner is visible, am i to consider that an impression?

I believe so... but I don't follow the advertising world at all, so I can't say for sure.

Be sure to also note that some people might differentiate between unique imperssions and raw impressions.

Unique being limited to 1 impression per IP per day (typically). Raw being no IP limitation, simply the amount whatever it is has been viewed.

Whenever your ad is displayed = 1 impression. Two ads on a page would double the impressions (each user seeing two ads). Sami's point earlier is more relevant - be sure you know which an agency is referring to.
