Point of Sale Software(inquiry)

Post by Charles256 »

So I ask you people out there that run brick and mortar business to tell me some features you would want in your POS software. I am doing my own research of course but I figured I would ask around here, just in case. :-D

Interesting...

Some of your items in the list are pretty much duplicates... a gift voucher is effectively a form of discount in any case. But there do need to be different ways of calculating discount (i.e. straight deduction, percentage deduction). Also don't forget that many reatilers wish to exclude items from discounts - for example, tobacco and alcohol are almost always excluded from staff discounts (at least in the UK).

What about goods that need to be weighed? You'll need to be able to hook up to a set of difital POS scales that can perform a price per unit of weight calculation for you.

Item's that won't scan for whatever reason need to be able to be registered manually.

I'm not sure if "mutlipe pricing levels" is what this implies but at a bar I worked at a few years ago in my student days, all the drinks prices went up to "premium rate" prices at 10pm.

Some stores (Woolworths in the UK at least - another place I worked as a student) like to see who;s serving more customers than other people.

It seems as though you have a pretty complete list already though :) Clearly *everything* needs to be logged in a database.... can't have a voided item coming out of a transaction but not recorded anywhere.

Most systems require an authorized user to be able to open the cash drawer unless it's the end of a transaction.... this prevents finger dipping in the till. Therefore you'll need multiple levels of access, possible defined by the sotre themselves (user groups whereby you can set specific permissions).

A lot of the touch screen systems contain photos of the items too.... particularly with the items that need to be weighed like fruit/veg and bakers products.
