Uhh... I think the language censor obscured my meaning a bit. I meant to say that the client is a jerk. You are in the right.

I hope that is more clear.

Just to play devils advocate, try and see this from the clients point of view.

He probably doesn't know what coding, DNS, networks, etc. are and why should he? It's all just "teccy" stuff, which is what he pays you to deal with... You see how he might be confused? He may not see the different areas quite as clearly as we do.

Rather than focus on whether he's right or not (clearly he's just taking it out on you because there's no one else to blame), focus on trying to educate him into understanding that there are other issues and areas of expertise needed beyond "programming".

Repeat after me, the customer is always right(!)

Hell no.... Most certainly not these days when there is much more demand for skilled webdevelopers than there is supply...

I hope you're being sarcastic!

Then again, I've won lots of business on the basis of clients existing developers not being very hot on customer service, so i'm not complaining!!

There comes a time when a line needs to be drawn. This is true for any business. Sometimes losing the business of a single client makes more sense than losing your business altogether. In this case, I am not sure how far I would have taken that priciple, but in some cases, the customer is indeed wrong.

I'm aware of the fact that there are cowboys out there that will sell anything just to please the customer, and run away right after the sell... But i prefer to differ. I presume that customers hire us for our knowledge and expertise in this domain. Instead of being a monkey i prefer to think with/for the client and offer her the best advise/solution i can come up with.

If she agrees with the offer she'll get all the products/care/.../services we agreed on... Since i really believe in the solution offered i'll do anything i can to make the project succeed. On the other hand, if she really puts her foot down to get something i find inappropriatei'll advise her to seek a monkey.

PS: I'm aware that this is a personal choice i've made.. And i'm quite sure that not everyone follows me on this one.
