I never said any of the languages in question are better then any others. That's equivalent to stepping on an alter around here.
However, some languages are better suited to certain types of development and development paradigms then others.

I wish people wouldn't mention RoR in the same breath as programming languages. It's not a language. Ruby is the language. Rails is a framework. You'd look like a right idiot if you said you were a Zend Framework programmer when you meant PHP.

yes it does get a little annoying, but it's just one of those misconceptions I fear won't be overcome

It's kind of the same as people saying PHP/MySQL as if the two are joined at the hip.
