Business ideas are rarely unique...their to common sense. Like it's already been said, those ideas only ever seem solid once they are off the ground and making money for someone, then all of a sudden everyone wants to develop the next mySpace.
If you developed an algorithm which improved compression, etc...then you would likely have something worth protecting...otherwise...there is little harm in sharing ideas...you might find a partner.

GET YOUR IDEA TO MARKET!!
Why can't you just begin trying to get it to market?
If it is so reasonable - get it to market...
and if it is already out there -obviously no one is properly marketing it.
People always like my ideas, and in some cases try to "steal" an idea..
but creative people either get wounded if they are ripped off.. which they should not... they should exercise a bit of caution and roll with t he punches..
or they share ideas.. and continue to grow creatively..... sharing ideas.. is good for your creative development..
pick one partner.. that you can TRUST.. or like enough to gamble on... and then get working on it.

Re: A million dollar idea... without any money
Hi my name is Ronnie, thanks for bringing that question up, because I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I have a really BIG idea that I know will TAKE OFF, but I don't have any CAPITAL or the KNOW HOW. I came up with a SOLUTION, FOCUS first on BRANDING your name and then SEEK FUNDING and SUPPORT for your idea.
Re: A million dollar idea... without any money
Ok here is my million dollar idea, and good luck with it:
A computer. An internet connection. A microphone. Speech recognition software.
Speech recognition software looks for interesting words said and displays flickr pictures tagged with those words on big screen.
Place system in bar or other public place.
Don't say dirty words.
