I have a newsletter managment application I have been developing for a while now, I'm actually in the process of stripping some advancded features away and completing the full scale version.
Basically I plan on having a lite and a professional/enterprise version(s).
The OSS version will be completed shortly, 5-7 woring days if I keep at it. The commercial version might take a month or so of full time development before it's done, but with other contracts, etc maybe longer.
Do you think it's a good idea to release a free/open source version "before" the release of a commercial version, or will my free version possibly introduce eager people to newslettter management and cause them to seek alternatives in my competitors?
Cheers,
Alex

Re: Release open source first or in tandem
If you wait to release the OSS version the people looking for a system in the mean time will end up with another system anyway, so I wouldn't worry about that.
More important is what impression you make with your first release (oss or not), so that people get interested
