Any questions involving matching text strings to patterns - the pattern is called a "regular expression."

I've installed wpmu and it uses this function to validate email addresses:

Code: Select all

function validate_email( $email, $check_domain = true) {
    if (ereg('^[-!#$%&\'*+\\./0-9=?A-Z^_`a-z{|}~]+'.'@'.
        '[-!#$%&\'*+\\/0-9=?A-Z^_`a-z{|}~]+\.'.
        '[-!#$%&\'*+\\./0-9=?A-Z^_`a-z{|}~]+$', $email))

    {
        if ..........
what I need that it validates only the emails that ends with *.uio.no (for example: matnat.uio.no, student.hf.uio.no,...).
I tried but I could not figure out how to change the validation code. can someone help me? thanks in advance

I wouldn't tamper with the regular expression* but prepend another check for the domain

Code: Select all

$domain = '.uio.no';
if ( substr($email, -strlen($domain)===$domain )
