Licensing

Greetz all,

I posted here a few months ago as I knew nothing of PHP OOP and really wanted to implement SWIFT into a project.

Well, having crammed down and got some basics under my belt, I am now starting to get my head round it. Swift seems to be running well with my project, I am still to take it out of development and put in on a live server, but am confident it will not need any attention!!

The project I have been working on a simply an affiliate management script. v1.00 will only be a basic, 1 level affiliate program so as to thouroughly test out the basic working and iron out any bumps. Swift is used for all email, The users confirmation email, welcome email, admin newsletter (though still needs testing on a larger list) and all the other good stuff Swift was made for!

Eventually, I want to offer my script as a premium product. My question is, is this allowed?

From day 1, while the script is just a free download, the home site of my script will have full credits for any lib's used. (i am still yet to throw the home page together!) and all distributions will include the full download of swift (and all other libs!) will all its notes, readmes and licenses in their full glory.

But am I allowed to sell it?

I have read the licience and about 1 quater down i am lost!! All I want to know is if I am allowed to sell my script which included the unmodified swift lib?

Thanks very much for Swift, It has given me the kick in the ass to take OOP by the horns as well as improving my personal sites email functioning :)

Yes, you can sell it, most likely*. You MUST leave the license file for Swift Mailer inside the directory however -- redistributing without the license in-tact is illegal.

* You'll need to elaborate on your own specific licensing though. It is possible that your own license would conflict, but unlikely.

Hi Chris,

Cheers, thats a relief, as I had made a lot of progress before giving the licence issue a think!

My free version will have a link back to the site, while (eventually) those who wish to pay a resonable fee can have the link removed and get better support and assistance.

I am not actually sure what kind of licences these will be, but its a safe thing that the version of swift used will be in the source, all in tact just as i got it.

Fingers crosesed this is all above board, and without a doubt, if it starts to bring in some bucks, i will defon send some over :)

Cheers :)
