Re: Large monitors and new displays...
Working on making my own. It'll have a ELO 1280x1024 19" touchscreen (not very big, but bigger than my whimpy 1024x768
, plus it's about as large as you can get in touchscreen). The operating system will have a cool touch interface
. Of course, I'll have other stuff too, like various versions of windows, linux (gentoo?), and maybe a unix (solaris?), along with the other basic necessities, like a Sony dual-layer 20x DVD burn speed drive, Intel Core i7 with matching Intel motherboard, Logitech Illuminated keyboard (not too interested in the illuminated part, but it's the best low-profile keyboard they have)

Re: Large monitors and new displays...
The Intel i7 has been a knockout CPU along with the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard...I just wish I bumped up the ram a little more maybe to 12GB instead of 6.
The CPU will not run any 32 bit OS like XP...at least i kept getting a weird error shortly after install...I have read others have had mild success but complain about weird effects...I haven't yet read any blog or forum where someone claimed ultimate success with XP.
Windows 7 Ultimate is a slick OS...has tons of nice power user features...like movable task tray items without a shell extension...it's pretty stable with the exception of IE8...constantly harrassing me about compatability mode...
Apparently WIndows 7 has a major security whole that researchers in India discovered and decided to disclose before the fix was made available...this epxloit will let anyone take over your system...
I also run virtual PC with XP mode...thats pretty sweet...although still somewhat slow to respond...but it lets me sandbox all my questionable internet activity to a virtual PC...limewire...torrents...etc.
The interface hasn't changed much but it has improved especially the start menu...it's quite slick now. Some applications wouldn't run in Win7...like my old editor...I had to update to the latest version and voila it seems to work fine or as expected -- which is somewhat buggy but it's fast and light weight and very configurable -- which is why I like it.
Keyboard seems to be screwed but i think thats low batteries...
Cheers,
Alex

Wouldn't it be awesome if you could afford to make a heat sink out of manufactured diamond? Put a thermoelectric generator between them, and put a fan on top, and you'd have the most freezing processor on the planet.

Why what does the diamond do? Thermoelectric generator?Put a thermoelectric generator between them, and put a fan on top, and you'd have the most freezing processor on the planet.
I assume it makes for a super conductor?
I was watching Manswers the other day and they explained how bomb squad's are starting to use liquid nitrogen to super cool bombs to a point somewhere around absolute zero, at which point atoms stop moving and electrons, etc are neuteralized. No connectivity = no timer = no explosive.
I have no idea except a laymen's guess at how that all works...but was pretty neat
Re: Large monitors and new displays...
Only problem with that is liquid nitrogen isn't cold enough. Liquid Oxygen would be cold enough to make a difference, but anyone be damned if they pour liquid o2 into a bomb...
