Have you used Trac? Is it any good?

The title says it all really.
Trac seems quite impressive. Is it a good project management tool?
Just want to hear your thoughts because I waste time installing and learning it.
Thanks

It's slow and hard to use, and I would never want to turn it over to a client to login and use. I use ActiveCollab, but one of these days, I'm going to build my own based on things I like about AC, but make it far, far simpler, yet effective and not annoying either. Just don't have the time right now. Trying to stay afloat, financially, right now.

I tried to install on Windows yesterday, and failed miserably. Giving it a try on a real server *cough* linux *cough*. I'm planning on using it strictly for intranet purposes, and also wouldn't dream unleashing this upon anyone not technically savvy.

So what you are both saying is, its worth using for tech people, but definitely not for our clients to use?
Is there something that satisfies both? So the client can easily see the progress and log more info?

Ah, no. ActiveCollab is nice and great for clients. It's just that some people may think it has more than enough for clients. I prefer something slightly simpler, and that's because I'm an extremely picky person and because, as a developer, something inside says, "I can make this even better. I can also make it even easier than AC is. And I can get rich on doing that." With Trac, though, I found it slow. And, although I understood how to use it, I could clearly see that my clients would find it quirky, unlike AC.

ActiveCollab is not free though

, and Trac is.
Yeah I can see if a really good system was made and combined a lot of tools, you'd get rich.

Well, let me put it this way. AC is the best I've seen. The price is expensive, though. That's one of the reasons I've been wanting to build one -- because I think I could do it even better, and sell my system for like $60 USD. It would sell like hotcakes. I've got some projects ahead of this, though. :(

Yeah I know the feeling. Before, back when I was a youth, when I was just starting out; I had plenty of time but no ideas. Now I have a huge list of ideas but not much time
