I think it's definitely something I will use. It will change how people use email, chat, etc. As it is now, you have all these separate channels through with you communicate (email, chat, twitter, facebook updates, etc etc, plus old fashioned phone, sms, etc). That's very annoying, as everything is so incredibly fragmented. Where was that list of items your boss send you? In which email, when did he send it? Or was it somewhere in a chat log?

With Wave many of the boundaries between these separate channels will be removed.

I'm also sure it will be very useful to use as a collaboration tool in projects. It's so annoying to have
1) emails
2) email chats
3) irc chats
4) a website with posts and comments
5) a forum
6) a wiki
all with pieces of info about the project. Can you imagine replacing all those with one single place in which you communicate with project members?

Yeah, I've only seen half the movie so far but was really impressed with what I've seen so far. And everything feels so natural and it will probably be a very easy transition with the work flow most people use now.

And I bet that Microsoft (and other traditional software makers) will be afraid of developments like this. Instead of 10 people each having their own desktop system and opening Word to write a draft proposal, opening up Excel to create some data sheet and then Outlook to send it to the others, all those people are instead able to use whatever device they have (their phone, laptop, etc) to log in and collaborate on something online. Instead of paying for 10 Vista licenses and 10 Office licenses they have 10 cheap (linux?) notebooks only needed to get online

It's going to be massive. A game-changer. But not because people will use it. People won't.

What it'll do is show people what web apps are capable of. I'll be able to sell my clients the benefits of a journalling content management app, or a collaborative document editor, or whatever else, much more easily. Just like GMail did for AJAX, Wave will make HTML5 things mainstream and therefore sellable.

Will we still be able to use the marquee tags? I think we all agree that's what's most important here...

You shouldn't be using marquee tags. It's the 21st century.

We use jQuery with $('#id').animate({'left':'+=50px'}, "slow") now.

I was not going to watch the whole thing, but I could not tear myself away. This thing is way beyond awesome. I cannot wait for its release.

Funny name or not, Google is an amazing company.

I wasn't questioning the spelling, which I had actually failed to notice. The failure to communicate in this thread is awesome.

Who was it said that "The British and Americans are two peoples separated by a common language."

My father was in England during the war and became an Anglophile. He adopted the habit of describing things with the major dimension first. "Hand me that four by two."
