I'm in a unit that trains leaders so most of the stuff is not overwhelming, but next week (Monday-Friday) we are gonna live in a forest and sleep on ground with a sleeping bag filled with holes. No tents, so I hope the weather is warm. On Monday, we will march 20 miles with full combat equipment (90 pounds) until we reach the forest where we are gonna sleep and spend the entire week on practicing how to dig foxholes and things like that. It surely makes your muscles hurt a bit, but you get used to it quickly. It's not all that horrible. The food is great, very healthy and you never get hungry (literally). My weight has risen by roughly 12 pounds and it's because my muscles got bigger (my abs are starting to show up nicelyjosh wrote:When the rest of the world invades America spare me, hopefully you don't go thru some of the hard ships my friends who joined the US Marines had to go thru ( sleeping on ground in desert for 4 months as part of training, stuff like that ). Best of luck
On the other hand, if you were in combat and poison gas was being used, you couldn't breathe without it!kaisellgren wrote:The thing I hate most is marching with a gas-mask (M/95). You just can't breath with it.arborint wrote:Are you back for a while then? You have been missed around here!
lets be real here, the last time poison gas was used extensively was WWI and also sparingly in WWII. In addition, most poison gas attacks attack through the skin as well (for this reason carbon-based protective gear is used in conjunction with masks in most gas drills). On the other hand, if you were in combat and poison gas was being used, you couldn't breathe without it!
Indeed. We were testing our gas masks and suits in a room filled with some poisonous gas (which was of course diluted). My gas mask was fine but my suit was leaking somewhere and my arms started tingling and became red.pytrin wrote:most poison gas attacks attack through the skin as well
Be my guest.pytrin wrote:By the way, can I join your army perhaps, Kai? never heard of tasty army food, ours is so bad you'd rather eat those gas masks.

Maybe it is the close-up, but that looks like how dinner might appear AFTER drinking a bottle of vodka!kaisellgren wrote:Be my guest.Yesterday I ate this food with yummy chocolate dessert cream for lunch.
