There's good mail hosts and there is bad mail hosts
I have two free email accounts, hotmail and yahoo. Yahoo is my main one and I use hotmail for crap I dont really want to go to my email box.
The hotmail account gets about 200 junk emails a day and 180 of them go to my inbox and 20 go the to junk mail folder
My yahoo account gets about 50 junk emails a day and 47 go into the junk mail folder and only about 3 get into my inbox on a given day.
Why the hell does hotmail suck sooooo bad? I also signed up for the $20 yahoo mail. It rocks

bob@bob.com
I use hotmail as a email account that I give out when I aboslutely have to have a valid email for a program and they are going to send me an id or some thing but I also have a hunch that I will be spammed.
When I need a valid email and I don't need something back some poor guy named bob@bob.com gets put on all sorts of lists because it is so easy to type.

I tend to use fake@fake.com - I hate having to give out information like e-mail addresses, post codes etc. without any good reason. For where I have to give a zip code they get 90210 and any old random stuff for UK post code.
I gave up on free e-mail a long time ago - I use addresses like amazon@mydomain.com now so if I get spammed I know where it originated and I can at least have a go at the people who sold on my address.

I prefer to use name@example.net
Its gaurenteed not to exist, so I don't end up signing some poor guy up for spam and I haven't found a service yet that rejects the example.net domain.

Gah, Beverly Hills 90210 - but I liked that black haired girl, what's her name. The one who was in "Charmed" (and didn't look as good anymore)...
Anyway, I use http://www.gmx.net - it's a German service and the good thing about them is that you have pop3-access and very effective spam-control, tons of options etc. I suppose you'd have to be able to understand a bit of German to sign up - but don't come whining and telling me that's not worth it...
