Who are you? (People with over 100 posts)

So, it occurred to me that some of the main posters on here, I have no clue what kind of people I'm talking to. It's not really important, but for example, I just found out that PCSpectra is about half the age I would have suspected. So, to avoid any more embarrassing moments, if you've got over 100 posts on Devnetwork, what is your gender, your age or age range, what part of the world are you in, and what is most of your time spent doing?

Keep in mind, the intent is to know what kind of a person you are, not to attract stalkers. There's no need for full names, or office addresses... in fact, I would recommend, obviously, that you DON'T post that kind of information.

I'll get started!

I'm a 21 year old male living on the east coast of the United States. I am a student at a public university, but spend a lot of time learning PHP and doing other website development.

ROFLMA...thanks... :drunk:

I'm 30, male, living in central Canada. My spare time is spent reading books, refactoring source code and learning new practices and trying to discover or improve already established practices. During the day I'm a code warrior, SEO lacky and server admin.

I think all top posters pretty much fall into the same category as me...it's obvious I have no life so if you post more than me...you probably have even less of a life...LOL

It's what keeps me coming back here...their about the only people who understand me and my daily frustrations. :P

I'm Jack and I'm 16, from Ipswich in the UK. I work for my school as an IT technician, and I spend a lot of my time coding, gaming, and listening to music. Oh, and I like Star Trek :P

Most of my coding experience is from my site - http://jackpf.co.uk which I've coded entirely myself. I also have an interest in C and console applications, and hacking (for knowledge, not to annoy people).

Tbh, I came here because I got banned from PHPFreaks for hacking people's sites. Tbh they're a bunch of noobs anyway. I find people here a lot less arrogant, and the moderators aren't total pricks (Y). I had almost 1.5k posts there though :P

Anyway, I guess I'm rambling on about stuff that'll get me into trouble here, so I'll just shh now...

Oh, to answer the original question, I come back because I've received help here. I think it's only fair to help out others in return.

My name is Kaspars, i'm 24 year old male. I live in Riga, Latvia, that's in Eastern Europe. My job title is front end developer - coding html, css and javascript (I love coding JS).
At a free time I'm trying to finish my blog, but I'm really bad client for myself, and experimenting with html5 new features lately.

I'm 27 year old male (don't we have too much males here?), living in Ukraine. At work I'm senior software developer, and when I get free time I come here to swing Mighty Banhammer on those who think this board is a proper place for spam. Lately I started work on gtk-xdebug-client, so it's taking a fair share of my free time as well.

I'm a male, my name is pretty obvious (in my sig), and I'm 21... today! Just finished studying at Manchester University last month - got a 2:1 in Internet Computing. Have been doing freelance web stuff mainly for friends and family for years now, and might have actually sorted out a proper job for the first time to start next week - doing development stuff for a primarily print media design company. If that doesn't work out I'm probably going to do a month-long course in September back at the same university studying business stuff, then carry on looking for full-time work.

I spend most of my free time either socialising (ie. drinking) or keeping fit (mainly running, cycling, playing football, climbing and weight training).

I'm currently living in Leeds but will probably be moving back to Manchester in September to continue the student life-style with my housemates who are still students :)

This, it turns out, is my 1000th post. Fancy that. I'm a retired software developer, or at least that's my latest occupation, 66 years old in San Diego CA.

As my avatar would indicate, I served a hitch in US Navy submarines, and worked in industry for many years as an electrician and mechanic, graduating to plant supervision. There was an application in the plant that I thought could be done better by a computer than it was being done at the time, laboriously with a pencil and paper, and I couldn't find anyone to program it for me so I taught myself UCSD Pascal and programmed it myself. It actually worked quite well, but it was another 15 years before I went into programming full time - about 1981 when I bought one of the first IBM PC's.

I've never done anything but freelance, but made my living doing it from 1985 until I retired in 2003 for health reasons. I never actually did much Internet stuff, that is what I'm doing since I retired. The work I did was all business and plant operations applications for business on desktops and networks, mostly in C++ and Visual C++ but some other systems when I couldn't get out of it.

This industry sucks for women, yup. :)

PHPWomen is a really good idea, but it's still kind of unfortunate women feel/felt the need to seperate themselves from the men. I like the idea of having diverse working dynamic I truly wish there were more women in this industry.

Well, I don't want my friend BillH to feel like he's the only one over 30, and anyway I want to brag about celebrating my 80th solar orbit, just this week! I, too, served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, but not in submarines--I would be claustrophobic!I was Ass't Electronics Officer at the Naval Radio Station on Guam in 1952 and on several ships thereafter. I worked in the aerospace industry for some years, went back to grad school to get a Master's degree in Industrial Management from Sloan School at MIT, worked in a variety of industries, including ocean shipping (Matson), several agricultural cooperatives, and spent the final 20+ years in the electronics industry (Ampex, Memorex/Burroughs/Unisys), taking early retirement when Unisys closed its Santa Clara hard drive plant at the end of 1989. I taught computer classes at a local community college for another 10 years or so (Internet and databases, in the Business Division) and then decided to relax and have some fun. I did a lot of international traveling for several years and now do volunteer web development work for a nonprofit educational/ecological organization. I'm also on the board of directors of the Northern California Theatre Organ Society. On the plus side, I've had the opportunity to learn a LOT of things during all these years--on the minus side, I've also forgotten a LOT of things, and I'm sometimes a typical grouchy old man. I can't imagine that anyone would want to know more about me, but on the off chance that somebody does, I will refer them to my web site, which has a nearly complete history of me: http://ravey.net.

Just to make you all jealous: I work in a team of 10 programmers, two of which are girls.

I a 30 year old freelance programmer. I bought my first computer back in 2000, so I'm sort of a late comer. I'm completely self educated and have read all sorts of books on programming and related fields. I live in the midwest, away from any employers who would hire someone with my skillset. I worked in Chicago for a while as a contractor but wasn't too fond of the big city.

I'm a 27 years old developer from Tel Aviv, Israel. I took my lumps as a freelancer for several years until recently starting my own firm with two other very talented individuals. We now realize other people's web start-up aspirations as well as developing web products of our own.

Cool! Again, nice to meet you all! Pytrin, I hope to be taking advantage of Birthright soon and visiting Israel. From what I'm told, they like to make sure we have a good time in the evenings, maybe I'll run into you somewhere when we visit Tel Aviv.

Bill H, congratulations on your millennial post!
