Cleaning up the Windows registry

Post by greyhoundcode »

OK so nothing to do with PHP, but ...

Anyone had any experience with registry clean-up tools? Any recommendations?

Regedit would be fine if there was some way of figuring out what is redundant and what's not, sadly there doesn't seem to be :-(

Back when I had Norton Systemworks I used it's registry cleaner a couple times. My recommendation? If you're not having some specific problem, don't run a registry cleaner just for the heck of it. Typically even if you clean out some orphaned path or object, you won't see any difference in the way your computer runs.

I've used and would recommend Crap Cleaner

Yeah tried CCleaner, seems pretty good :-)

Wasn't for a specific problem as such, just trying to speed up an ancient laptop that's had a great many different bits of software installed and (sometimes unsuccessfully) uninstalled.
