The Power of a Book

It always amazes that the power of a book has. For instance last year I bought several php/mysql books and this year I've turned those books into thousands of dollars in freelance programming.
Anyone else ever think about the power of a book? I used to hate reading until I learned that I can turn those books into a career.

I recently compared the power of some major religious texts.
The bible everyone probably knows about but the Koran (new to me anyway) had some unexpected weight. Siddharta by Herman Hesse, although a fine read, was just a bit too lightweight, at least in the paperback version.
When the guy in the library tried to mug me a skelp with Siddharta just made him angry; a whack with the Koran stunned him for a moment but it took a blow from the Bible (with a clear three pound weight advantage) to bring him down.
Yup, books can be powerful indeed.

Totaly agree, books are the best way to start with, if you decide to pick up whatever languige (or religion alla php).
Although the web has many examples...you just can't grab it as eazy as a book. When you are done reading one...you can always retreive it from the shelve if you get stuck, and find the article that you once read with the solution, much faster as on the internet.

Books have no power at all. Or has any of you ever seen an on/off switch on one?

And what's the use of a book with a switch when it's unplugged? I am confused now.

5 seconds yea, you just had to search for a apple powerbook, I had to wade through electricity manuals until I found one with a switch on it
why isn't there a category for that on amazon?
