Finding a Database...

Post by jballou »

Hey, so this might be a stupid question, but I figured I'd ask anyway since Google hasn't helped me much in this arena. I'm looking for a database of specific information (addresses of public parks) but I don't really know how to find a repository of any databases available for download. How do people typically obtain databases of this type of information? Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

I would start with whatever governmental agency may have jurisdiction. If it's in the USA, you might find data available from the National Park Service or State Park agencies in each state. Of course, there are also County and Municipal parks. I would be surprised if a comprehensive database of all these exists. But if you find the right person in any one of these agencies, they might be able to tell you. Another source would be a research librarian at your local public library. Those folks are really good about information like this.
