PHP Magazine

Post by jaoudestudios »

After a lot of searching, I have only come across 1 php magazine!

Am I wrong? Are there more and I just dont know about them?

If I was to start a PHP Magazine, would you download it? (in the future hopefully have a printable version). Would you write an article for it?

I would be interested to hear your thoughts...?

This is the wrong forum for the topic, IMO, maybe General Discussions is more appropriate one.

I know only the phpArchitect's magazine, is it the same magazine you are talking about.

If you start a magazine, I will download the first issue to see it, as well as any issue I see some interesting title in. If the articles are good enough, I even would pay for it.

As for writing articles, it's something that can be discussed.

Thanks Darhazer for your comments. You are probably right, this might be the wrong forum to post in, my bad if it is - I am sure one of the moderators will move it accordingly.

Yes phpArch is the magazine I was talking about. I plan to read a few of these to get an idea of their approach and see if I can do something better or different or both :)

My thoughts & and plans are for the pdf download to be free (including historic versions) but if and when I do a printed version, I would have to charge to cover the print costs. I dont see it as a money making scheme but more as a chance to give back to the community and to get involved in another way besides coding.

I would like to include lots of articles (thoughts, tutorials etc) written by other developers to kind of have an 'Open Source Magazine' - if that is possible.

Initially it would probably only be a quarterly release, but as more people come on board, hopefully move to monthly releases.

If you want to write articles, you can commit them to phpArchitect.
The think that I dislike in allowing such contributions is the lack of quality. I've read several articles at phpArchitect that really sux. One of those claimed that creating an ML site in the relational way is bad approach, and the best one is to break even the first form of normalization, creating as many fields for the text in the table, as the count of supported languages is.
What I want to say is that a good magazine needs good editor at first place.

I am sure that is possible.

But like you said, its about quality, and I believe we do have some very clever people here who have never thought about submitting an article to phpArch because it is so commercial. Whereas if a magazine was made closer to home (or more open source - not sure if that is correct way of putting it yet), then they would. Not only would it help other people who read the magazine but the developers who wrote the article.

It is good for someone to play devils advocate :) , so please continue.

Excellent!

60+ members now, with some great ideas.

Anyone going to write an article regarding DevNet? Even if it is just a small one.
