The End of Spam - Rebirth of Sucessful Internet Companies?

Now that the goverment is finally taking steps to reduce spam(slow as they may be) eventually I really think we'll see a reduced amount once lawsuits are actually filed against spammers.

Since businesses will then no longer be able to advertise through current spam channels, they'll have to turn back to banner ads and other forms of acceptable advertising.

I think as an internet community we need to embrace advertising on the web the same way as on TV. You are getting a free service. Someone has to pay for it. I think net advertising will pick up again in the next few years allowing websites to deliver better content and features.

What do you guys think about it?

guess you are referring to the U.S. government when you say government. They do not control the Internet. SPAM is big busine$$. They'll probably just move their operations somewhere other than the US. I hope for the best though.

Yes, I was reffering to the US govt but I know other countries are taking initiatives against it. I'm sure they will move some spamming operations oversees to protected countries.

However the fact is that most small to medium sized, legitimate business aren't going to take that route. I can't see an end to spam totally but I think revenue from net advertising will increase because of the crackdowns.

my company just started using google ad words and we've spent $200 so far and have gotten almost $3,000 worth of orders. I set up a source code for the link so I can track how many users sign up from the ad word and how many actually make purchases.

Not a bad service

do you pay per click? how cheap is google?

yea we do pay per click. At first we had to experiment with different words. Some are more expensive than others.

What I've found through the statistics I've tracked is that more targeted is better.

For example we used to have the words "darkroom supplies"
that cost us $50 for 2 weeks and gave us 0 orders. When we narrowed the darkroom supplies to actual supplies and specific items it costs us $6.00 and generated $1000.

What words, what kind of ad are we talking about?
Do you mean indexed keywords at google that are privileged in hit frequency because you pay for it?
Is it one of those sponsored links to the right?

yea, we do one of the sponsored links that appear on the right side of google searches. you pay for words.. so if you search on the word camera you'll get listings on the right of people who bid for that word. When you click on it, they get charged based on the amount of people that want that word

So if what you sell is something people want, then it's a good thing to do...
My boss's wife takes a funny approach to our business:
We sell what nobody wants to people who don't need it.
I guess it doesn't matter whether we buy ads form google then
