Average time to become a PHP Developer?

Post by r4r4 »

Recently I came to know about the huge opportunities in PHP programming. I have already started taking its tutorial and am looking for 3 months ahead to get into freelance assignments with the same. Is it a reasonable time to be in? I had training in C++ and Java earlier. I am looking for form validation in particular. Is this the right choice?

I think, if you talented and zealous, 3 months are reasonable time to become freelancer. You should start from reading manual, just keep reading, one or two times. After all try to pass some tests, for example on odesk.com

good luck

If you're sensible, and you turn down work you know you can't do yet, then yeah, maybe you could be earning money with PHP after just a few months, but really you ought to be looking for someone to team up with, or getting a junior level job in a company. The minimum clients expect from their sites these days is actually quite a lot of work (although a lot of it can be offloaded to a framework or libraries). If you don't then you'll be running the risk of taking on a job you can't handle that will take up all your time and you won't get paid because you'll fail to complete it.

Put it this way, I've been doing PHP for 10 years. I'm still learning. There are still things that I turn down because I don't have the knowledge to complete them.
