So it seems that if you make a jQuery/AJAX/PHP web service component that does only one thing, and helps with collaboration, keep it simple and modern, a company like Google or another company will want to acquire you.
Etherpad just got acquired by Google.

Interesting product...runs on a custom server though...
Secondly, look at the credentials of the founding members and their backgrounds *with* Google...kind of gives them a bit of an edge over Joe Somebody or in this case Mike or Alex.
