File hosting
Has anyone used a third-party to host files for download (like Tradebit?) I'm looking at options for selling a piece of software - ie, so customers can download it after purchasing - and am interested to hear if anyone has had good/bad experiences of various websites offering this facility.
Re: File hosting
http://www.secureloads.com/
I use this one. Its ok. I looked into pHP licensenge but it did way too much... also he uses his own system for his own website, and the "newsletter" has no opt out link. He has been emailing me every week saying "oooh next week the price is going to go up better buy". (this is php licensge not secureloads). I reply everytime and ask why there is no opt out link and I would never buy software that did newsletters and didnt even have opt out. He has been systematically harassing me with this emails for some time. Not the experience you should give your customers, go with secure loads it is decent.
I went with it because it did that 1 task somewhat decently. He keeps changing the price (secureloads guy). When I got it it was $80 and it didn't do the billing features. THen he added billing features and dropped the price to $30. Now it looks like its back up to $50 again, lol.
I am using it for http://www.vehiclefits.com and http://www.magento-rma.com, the customers use a paypal buy now button, and I manually review the payment and setup the accounts (he sent me the new version and I've been meaning to upgrade but so busy making sales!)
Also I am using sugar CRM for my lead capture form which is working out nicely (and can handle my newsletters when it is time)

Re: File hosting
I'll take a look at that, but (probably should have been clearer!) I'm particularly interested in a company that will host the files on my behalf, sparing me the bandwidth burden.
I'm aware of numerous companies offering that service after a bit of googling, but not having used one before I'm interested in anyone's experience of such a service.

Bandwidth "burden"? Why not spare yourself the financial burden and get an account at hostmonster.com? Not like your software is multiple gigabytes is it?
I looked into the hosted solutions too. They all SUCK (I actually decided to sign up with one, and after 10 attemps and it rejecting my credit card I said #### this my customers dont have this much patience either). Plus they want like 10% of your profits

Good to hear honest feedback about services of that nature.
