Weakness caused by lack of sleep

I'm a PHPDN-aholic. I should be asleep, but I'm here answering questions.
But the lack of sleep has taken its toll. I've done what I've always tried to avoid doing.... I've writen code for someone begging for code; someone who didn't seem willing to even try first. I feel ashamed of myself. Time to go to bed. Maybe in the morning I won't feel so bad.

Hey, sorry to hear that. Since you got 2 up on me, let me at im. I'll give him a script that looks like it will print the 'hello world' they want, but will actually torch their shorts when they click the submit button! Great script, if I say so myself, and I didn't lift it from awsomescriptsforu_ubonehead.com
But to be fair, weren't we all there? Lucky for me I didn't like what I saw and rewrote it all.

Bah! Sleep is a waste of good programming time.
Do you ever have any php dreams? I once solved a problem while I was asleep. Amazing. If only I could do that when I'm awake.

Heh. Yeah, I've been doing overtime myself for a while now, finished a biggish project last night.
But don't worry about writing the code, Eric. It makes you a good person
EDIT: forget that bit about the good person.

I just read the thread

I've been studying computer components for the past month and a half, and today (thursday) is when I'll have 90% of my stuff together.

OK its a new day... I don't feel quite as bad about my lapse as I did last night.
I guess what really gets me is that I wasn't able to spin it into a way to teach. I've given code before, but normally worked enough explanation around the code/comments into it, that I felt the poster would be able to learn something from it. I didn't last night and i think that's why it felt so wrong to me.
Heck I even posted a bigger section of code today, but its not code that will work exactly as is for the person, and its not even something I would regard as a "brilliant" solution (thought I did 2 years ago) and its for a harder problem, that I don't think has a complete/good solution.
Merely creating and writing files in a loop, on the other hand.....
Sighm gotta stop procrastinating and focus on work....

Don't worry about it, Eric. As long as you consider something like this a lapse, you're doing more than fine

Eric if its any consolation... you absolutely helped me with my cookie and security issues. You showed me some code but explained it in a way that I could understand what was going on. Now I'm a better programmer for it.
McGruff, sadly enough I have had php dreams. lol
When I have a big project and get stuck on something I find the best problem solving time is right before I fall asleep. I usually wake up in the morning excited to go code.

PHP dreams (or Python or Java) depending on the language/project before bed are very common for me, not quite as common as dancing dreams, but common enough.
Seeing flying <?php in syntax highlighted colors is a little un-nerving though....

I must say I haven't had a PHP dream, though I once had a dream via the command line. The entire thing consisted of white text on solid black and I had to think the commands to do anything. Of course it felt completely natural during the dream. I interacted with my universe via commands and shell scripts as if I knew no other way of existence.
The only drawback: I tend to wake up still feeling the way I do in my sleep, so I had a hell of a time trying to figure out the command to shut off the alarm clock...

troll, thats a common problem I've seen on here. FYI the next time you're having that dream, realize you have be signed on as the SU super user.
hope that helps with the alarm clock issue

Ah! What do all you guys know about dreams! I had one once. Everything worked as expected. I wrote the code, it worked. What a dream! Then I woke up and booted my windows machine that told me that I DIDN'T SHUT DOWN properly. Decided then to go back to sleep and dream again.
Though I must say, after years of dbase, basic, foxpro, etc. The transition to PHP/MySQL was finally approaching that dream!

nielsene: While you are giving out free code...I have a few projects I need done for my company. Um, but yeah, we don't have money....right....because...um....we don't have any.
Ignore the trips and the shows we are going to, and the RackSpace hosting with servers and firewalls, etc. etc.
Ignore all that, and the office, my computers...just ignore all that.
We have no money, really.
Just write the code. I'll even let you 'teach' me what the code does.
whee!
