Okay, i know this is a male dominated forum, so what ARE your views on female programers?? I dunno, just thought this might be an interesting topic.... an open a bottle of testosterone and see where it takes you idea.

And if you haven't already noticed, yes, I am female.

i think its great to see women programming. I mean they would probably make better coders neways, think about it: Men can only do one thing at a time, women can multiple task.

But if you take a job off me, i'll intimidate you out of it.... lol j/ks

I don't know if I'd say this is a male-dominated forum, Twig is female and one of the best posters.

I'm actually very surprised at the question, I don't recall even noticing much gender-related humor or asides creeping into threads. I've thought that this is one of the more gender neutral places on the web, but then again I don't tend to notice such things or comment on them.

As to my feelings on female programmers, its the same as on male programmers. So long as you are willing to think, listen, and help others I'm happy and think you'll be good.

I think the question is totally absurd.
What does male/female have to do with programming?
Sheesh.

I know few very good female programmers. Mostly Java programmers and I think it's great that women have also taken the interest of programming. The more the better. Bill H has a point though. Women and men has nothing to do with programming but programming has been a male dominated field for a long time so that's why it's nice to see more females getting into programming.

I think it's good. When I was freelancing at some biggish company (100% male in the department) these boy-jokes would get old quite quickly. As soon as a female was around everyone was smiles and shut up. I wasn't too sorry to leave that company.

Female programmers is a good thing.

I'm with Bill. "qartis" tells you nothing about sex, race, political views, so my name is a proxy to my mind. I'm using an avatar to talk to you, and any prejudice you have towards anything shouldn't apply, at least until you know any personal details about "qartis". I couldn't care less what sex/race you people are :)

unfortunately not everyone has that insight.
especially old men in human resources seem to think women are only good as good looking secretaries.

where i work my gender is not a problem though. the male coworkers don't seem to think of me as a female but rather some neutrum ... they drool at good looking women in the staff canteen whether i'm there or not. that don't bother me though i think its rather funny.

female = male

so then....

We don't say any female to not to join this forum, or not to code..

we want more geek-girls :)

I tend not to gender stereotype in this bailiwick - I purely judge people upon current programming skills and desire to learn, whether male or female. If you ask why your posted codelet isn't working, I'd try to help debug - if you demand someone make a script for you, I'd probably ignore you - gender independent.

Have a few coder/designer females on msn who I am happy to help with programming problems. Sometimes we talk about life and relationships, sometimes even flirt a tad. - hence

we want more geek-girls :)

Reason behind my post:

I'm female and thinking about going into programing as a career. I need to know if female programers are shoved aside (like they are in many jobs) and chosen over male programers. I mean think about, whats the use of coming into a career field thats 98% male and then trying to get work if people are so eager to take male programers over female ones?

Female Programmers

Wouldn't that be illegal? If a company doesn't take you because you're female? You could make a good lawsuit off that! Get tons of money! I probably want to make a living off programming too. Know any good colleges I should aim for in my high school career? (Going into high school in a month. eep!) Girls programmers are just as good as guy programmers, as stated in the other posts :D.

And Jade, I'm sure a company would never turn you down, you're great at PHP! Hell, you taught me most of it! We should start a programming business! -Laughs-

That's theory. Practice might look different, but I find it hard to imagine a female programmer not being taken on because of her gender.

I think a problem would rather be that you'd have to accostum yourself to a quote male-dominate world at work. That, however, depends entirely on the company you're employed by.

If programming is what you want to do, go for it.

Bah! There I was getting all excited and there's not a SINGLE view of a female programmer in this thread..

But seriously, if programming is what you want to do: go for it. As well as working for a company you could go freelance, maybe pooling skills with a loose network of friends for different jobs. Or maybe one day you'll start your own business..

Right now I'm all for more female company since I just got assaulted by a drunk male on a train. Nothing serious really - some pushing and shoving - but it came close. Just some idiot out to pick a fight. Why are guys such <span style='color:blue' title='I&#39;m naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span>?

I'm a cyclist so every now and then I get caught up in road rage incidents and yup, you guessed, it's always men.

I like that. Would make a good motto.
