nothing that digg or reddit could not implement in the blink of an eye if they want....K-Z wrote: You are write...except there in no people advertisements....
Just like normal advertisements you have...which show information bout a product...people will be advertised by showing information about them (which they would have entered) at one side in every user's page. So, one section of every webpage would contain description about few highly rated people who will be selected randomly.josh wrote:First of all I wouldn't characterize 4chan as a community. Can you please describe what is meant as "people advertisements"? Please clarify what the problem is with digg that your solution would address?
Thts a nice point Josh...thnx..I should rather divert my approach...josh wrote:Digg already had user profiles. I'm not trying to be negative, I'm trying to steer you towards something positive. If there is no problem with digg, why are you trying to fix it? If it aint broke don't fix it
Let's go back to the TV example for instance. If you read up on your history you'll see the guy who really "invented" the TV didn't really invent a TV. It was more like a real time fax machine. It wasn't real "motion". It wasn't until people were tired of paying $50 for plays that they decided it would be worth paying $0.50 to watch a stop motion film. The film makers saw these needs, they saw that people wanted entertainment 24/7 and live actors only partially fulfilled that need. So the problem with live actors was expense, schedule, and people could not watch a play on demand they had to plan it out for weeks and buy tickets. Stop motion films solved that problem by allowing people to decide on a whim when & where to get their entrainment, and to do so at a decreased cost.
So lets apply this to digg. What is a problem with digg? Well I could think of a few. "power users" get their stories submitted while real news often doesn't make it to the home page. Its almost like the news is biased in the wrong direction. Funny pictures and other non news items are always hitting the home page when half of the users expect news. Digg is already sort of addressing these problems though. If you think you can address them better & faster go for it man! I'm not being negative I'm just making sure you understand the real world before you dive head in, lol.
I really appreciate what you have said.....thank you very much....PCSpectra wrote:More important than ideas, innovation and implememtation is marketing...
All ideas, good or bad, will succumb to epic failure if they are not marketed/promoted/advertised effectively. There are people in this world, that could sell ice to an Eskimo...but you have to understand how your market thinks.
If you think it's a good idea, go for it! Do or do not, there is no try.
Seriously though, asking developers (especially experienced onces who are jaded and been burned by clients and their own ideas in times past) is like discussing a marathon with someone who is paralyzed, your response will rarely be positive. If it's one thing all successful men/women have in common, is they didn't listen to the ney-sayers they were either to stubborn or stupid but the acted on what they thought was a good idea and success is the ultimate indicator of that.
Just do it! Ok enough of being a 'marketing whore' for established brands. I'm leaving now.
Cheers,
Alex
