Vertical lines on Laptop screen

Post by PradeepKr »

Hi Guys,
I am getting vertical coloured lines on my Dell vostro 1510 (Vista 32 bit) laptop's screen. I tried reinstalling drivers and all but no use.
Recently windows update installed NVIDIA GeFOrce driver on my system which cause frequent crashing of the system. I disbled NVIDIA display and since then I am getting these vertical lines.

Any suggestions?

Try reinstalling the NVidia drivers from their website. If that doesn't fix it, I'd reinstall Windows. If that doesn't work, I'd install a real operating system like Linux  . If that doesn't work, it must be a hardware problem. Unless you know how to solder, you'll need to replace your motherboard or have someone else fix it.

Download a quickboot CD like Knoppix and see if the lines go away, if not, then it's likely a hwardware issue. I recently spilled coffee on my LCD monitor and didn't catch it all in time, I now have several multi-colored lines streaking vertically upwards where the coffee spilled. Kinda weird looking :P

Cheers,
Alex
