The social network

Anyone see that movie? Anyone else feeling a bit envious? :)

MySpace was my idea back in 2000-ish. I gave up on the idea cause most of my friends (none of whom are computer savvy) said it was an interesting idea but they wouldn't use it, so I figured no one would. I tried again in 2004ish with a focus on Canadian bands and I think I had 100 hits in a year.

After watching that movie, I am more convinced than ever California is the place to be when starting web sites. The Canadian prairies do not accomodate innovation like bigger cities I am convinced of that. :)

So anyways, if you did see the movie, what did you think? I liked it, although I wonder if Mark is really that diabolical. I suppose, money will make people go pretty crazy.

Cheers,
Alex

The kid who made facebook withdrew his support of the movie saying its not accurate. Myspace was not your idea. There is a psychological anomaly whereby we make small innovations upon former works and "forget" about them subconsciously. Almost every human being will under go that feeling "hey that was my idea". (Carl Sagan said "in order to make an apple pie from scratch - you must first invent the universe) Most likely it was not and you just forgot, or you did in fact have a clever idea but are unfairly attributing an entire niche of software development to yourself.

Honestly I think that movie looks really cheesy. One of those movies that embellishes on computers in general. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8w3fhYy6w4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-7iJPwrsw0

Honestly a big city is a lot more cost of living, a lot more distraction - I don't see any benefit to being in a city unless you're trying to build a theme (I suspect you like I don't have employees or anything). If you have something investment worthy, investors will find you. Also its not hard at all to get angel investors online, but why would you want to give away shares of your hard earned company?
