Anyone know whats up with BestBuy and the SONY GRV680?

The Sony GRV680 laptop keeps appears (sporadically) on BestBuy.com listed for $300 with a $150 mail-in rebate. Everyone at work has now ordered one: its a 2.6 GHz , 60 GB HDD, 512 RAM, CD/DVD R/W.

Has anyone heard anything about this? Has bestbuy been hacked?

Have had several bad experiences with Best Buy -- not honoring extended warranties and such things. Beware.

heh, who cares about much warranty when you get a new laptop for $150 :)

no such item now, it must have been an error, do u know if any of them have gotten an email that acknowledged the order and/or shipment Eric?

Everyone got the confirmation order emails, but not shipment, listed a 3-5 delay for shipment at time of purchase.

Yeah its gone from their page now. It appeared to be browser dependent too. You had to be on a MSIE on a Windows platform, and with valid login cookies to see it. Now we'll just wait a few days and see if we get a shipmnet notice or an apologetic email from them....

Ewww, gross. (I like my laptops as possibly desktop replacements, ie large screen, full accessories). If i have to carry around external disk drives, etc its not a good laptop for me. Besides for $150 (after mail-in rebate) just about any PIV is worth it :) )

Oh they're promising us some special deal on something to be announced in the next couple of days... we're suspecting it will be $10 off a cheapo digital camera or something.

We knew it was too good to be true, but we still got our hopes up

What you should do is email them saying you promised your crippled child a new computer and now you have to tell him BestBuy.com says no.

 Include a picture of some crippled kid looking sad.

Then put "How about a gift certificate?"
