ram questions for new mobo

Hey guys,

I'm going to attempt to build my first PC. I know a fair bit, but likely not enough. I am sure I will ask more questions.. and couldn't think of a better place than devnet to ask.

I have decided upon the following mobo which will go nicely along with my mobo and case, and not bad for the price and features
ASUS M4A88T-M/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

The specifications for that mobo for ram lists the following:

[text]Number of Memory Slots
4×240pin

Memory Standard
DDR3 1866(O.C.)/1333/1066

Maximum Memory Supported
16GB

Channel Supported
Dual Channel[/text]

I have never really understood the ram numbers. I get the DDR3 part, but what is 1866(O.C)/1333/1066 ? I don't know what those mean.

I've decided to get 8gb ram for now.. I can always upgrade to 16gb later if i need/want to.

I've looked up on newegg and found the following (hopefully compatible) ram sticks:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... x%204GB%29

I just don't know what to choose because of the 1866(O.C)/1333/1066 part?

I think it's the speed of the RAM that the board supports in Mhz. Either on of those 3 speeds will work in the board, and the O/C is probably for over-clocked or over-clocking.

Numbers after DDRX are transfer rate in MT. If you multiply that by 8 you'd get bandwidth: so for DDR3 1333 the maximum bandwidth would be 1333 * 8 ~ 10Gbit/s.
