custom pc build - thoughts and feedback

Post by s.dot »

Before I start ordering parts I want to run it by you guys and get feedback. This will be my first build so I'm rather excited! I wanted to go for speed and power (because honestly, who doesn't like speed and power?) and keep it relatively cheap.

Case:
APEX PC-389-C Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Motherboard:
ASUS M4A88T-M/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

CPU: (heatsink and fan included)
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDT55TFBGRBOX

RAM:
CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model CMX8GX3M2A1333C9

Power Supply:
Sunbeam PSU-H680-REV-US 680W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply - OEM

Main Boot Hard Drive:
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Storage Hard Drive:
HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C HDS721010CLA332 (0F10383) 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Monitor:
ASUS VW225T Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor

CD/DVD Drive:
SAMSUNG CD/DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S223C - OEM

So, feedback? Are there any obvious incompatibilities I'm overlooking? Any hardware (other than screws, cables, connectors, possibly adapters, and keyboard/mouse because I have them, etc) I'm missing? Since I'm building for speed and power, is there anything that's going to bottleneck the speed/performance and not allow the other parts to reach full potential (perhaps the hard drive RPM?)?

I know the onboard graphics won't be the best. I might upgrade that later, but I'm not worried about that aspect of performance right yet. I can always add on!

I don't know much,... I've only built one. But it looks good :). You might reconsider the boot drive though; I got a SSD for mine, and it's like a dream booting up.

P.S., here's mine: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/show ... ?p=6476136

I decided against ssd because it was too expensive for the capacity provided. I will wait a year or so until the prices drop.

gonna check out your setup..

Edit: that is pretty amazing. Nicely done!

Yeah, definitely not doing SSD on this build. Too much for a reasonably small 80 GB boot drive. However, if i build another one in the future I will definitely go SSD and try out the sata 6.0 gb/s.

This will be when I'm rich.
