Domain Registrars
This post by Chris Shiflett just came up today, thought I'd post it here. I've been looking for an alternative to GoDaddy myself.

Who do you usually use to register domain names?

Re: Domain Registrars
I've been looking to replace GoDaddy. It's going to be a pain to switch all the domains over (I think), but I'll be glad to never use GoDaddy again.
Re: Domain Registrars
I'd be interested to hear why both of you are dissatisfied with GoDaddy. I have no reason to praise them except that I have used them for domain registration and hosting of several domains for about 5 years and haven't had any problems. I've found their tech support very helpful and friendly and their reliability has never been an issue. Of course, I have less than 10 domains and none of them are high bandwidth, so I'm not demanding much. But I'd like to know where they have been less than satisfactory for others.Benjamin wrote:I've been looking to replace GoDaddy. I think it could have something to do with the 75 additional products they offer you when all you want is a domain, and the maze you have to go through in order to ensure you don't accidentally purchase anything extra.
Re: Domain Registrars
I see. Yeah, that's annoying, but it doesn't seem to me to be a whole lot worse than others I've seen. They all want you to keep buying more "products", but so does Microsoft and Walmart. I agree that their user interface is a mess, and it's cluttered with crap that doesn't interest me, but I've found it acceptable to just ignore the come-ons, and when I've phoned them to figure out what they actually provide for some of their products, they have been forthright and not at all pushy, so as long as they remain reliable and keep their prices low, I'll stay with them.Benjamin wrote:I think it could have something to do with the 75 additional products they offer you when all you want is a domain, and the maze you have to go through in order to ensure you don't accidentally purchase anything extra.
Thanks.

Re: Domain Registrars
I use godaddy for 20+ domains and have found no reason to look for alternative registrars.
Re: Domain Registrars
I use pairNIC. I had been using their hosting services since 1997 and when they started domains I moved them all there. Easy, no-nonsense. While their prices may seen a little higher, one thing to consider is domain privacy is included at no extra cost.
