Look, I don't really care if Arnold's running the state for a little while. His policies are vague, but not bad.
I care that this is really just an example of rewarding irresponsibility, perpetuating what more and more seems to be the American ideal: there are no consequences for anything. Remember how you elected Gray Davis just a few years ago? "Well to hell with that! Throw 'im out! What did he do? Who cares! I don't like him!"
It sort of defeats the purpose of an election if someone can just spend a bunch of money and shout "Do-over!" If a leader actually does something illegal or reprehensible, then fine, that's what the recall laws are for. This is just <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span>.

Mmm. Well, I can certainly agree that no matter what, California is pretty <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span>. Glad I bought my car a few weeks ago.

Up here in BC there have been several attempts at recalling some members of our provincal government. Most have been politacally motivated.
There is one thing to be said about the recall in California that I like, yes it is democracy in action and that is great, however from a little afar it does seem to be some what politacally motivated with the courts being involved and all and which party the judges are on. That is one of the draw backs of having a two party system.
Of course you can go to the other extreme like Italy where colation governments are the norm and made up of about 10 little parties. Governmants there rise and fall almost monthly.
At least Gray Davis gets a chance to run agian. Our last 4 or 5 premiers in BC have resigned do to one scandal or another. Nothing major but politacal favoutism and the like.
If California is only suffering from incomptent leadership then it isn't doing to bad.

I can't wait until Big Arn "eating isn't cheating" Schwarzenegger gets caught in the jacuzzi with an armful of interns and a party bucket of <span style='color:red;text-decoration:blink' title='Alert a moderator!'>grilled spam</span>.

Apparently the California constitution has provisions for this, so those unhappy should seek to amend it. This seems similar to the parlimentary vote of no confidence. Perhaps some time constraints could be introduced so that there could not be the constant 'shuffling of the deck' that happens elsewhere.
Cannot predict what will happen if Arnie becomes the Governor there...it must take some great motivation to want the hassle, especially if you already have it made. The pressure to fix all the
****ups in Ca and fix them now will be enourmous. The energy problem created by Zoned-Out folks....and what was it you said went up 300%??? Who would want to take on those challenges?
Good Grief!

Well, what the hell do you want them to do? I doubt Arnold's going to have any magical solutions to the problem, either. There's just no money. Programs are being cut left and right - health-care organizations are having to go to the Supreme Court to fight the state cutting their funding, because it would create a health epidemic if they were shut down. There is no federal funding, because the budget's totally gone to <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span>... and probably, somehow, out of all of this, more critical industries will end up getting privatized. It's just an awful situation all around.

Davis himself admits they spend more then they take in.
What I do like that arnie says is that he'll look to try and tax the indian casinos... thats a couple billion there. They seem to have no problem filling the pockets of davis and cruz. Every other state taxes indian casinos.
thats just one, there are a million ways to cut spending. Its not rocket science. Gov. is like being a CEO.. they really don't do any of the "work", they just monitor, inspire and pass final judgement on what they think is in the best interest.
I'm just thankful huffington dropped out.. did you see that debate last week? ugh she made a fool out of herself.

Well, you're sort of right. They don't necessarily do all of the work, but they do take all of the responsibility and all of the blame. Which is largely what is happening here. The state the budget is in has very little to do with Gray Davis. It has a lot to do with privatized industry and the state legislature. Whether or not Gray Davis has done anything else illegal or that you don't approve of, the primary blame being dumped in his lap is the budget mess, and that's just ridiculous, since it's every bit as much the legislature and the opposition party's fault.
You make the job of governor sound easy. Maybe you should be running!

I think California's foolish experiment with socialism perhaps may be drawing to a close. It does not work.
