I run a website selling "widgets" (let's call this SITE A) and recently aquired another business that sells widgets. (let's call this SITE B). Site A has lots of hits/traffic and site B has less traffic but is well ranked.
I am currently redesigning the look for both sites and wondered if I should make 1 site "merging" both site's products/services (which would probably be site A) or if I should keep both sites in tact and looking the same and let the traffic flow as it's been in the past.
Regardless I would make sure that all the pages that are ranked in search engines are properly redirected to site A.

This would be a good question for existing users of these 2 websites. If they can't find their site (site b), what will they do? Maybe search for another site, possibly even your site a. If both websites are similar (do the same thing, looks the same, etc) redirect users from site b to site a (or b to a, whichever way makes more business sense to you).
