DVD ripper ... recommendations please!

Post by greyhoundcode »

Before anyone panics, I'm not thinking of pirating movies or anything like that

A client has a promotional video which they want me to place on their website. To preserve (my) bandwidth, it seems logical to place this on YouTube and simply embed it in an iframe. But how do I get it onto my hard drive in a format that I can upload to YouTube?

I've certainly done a Google search and turned up plenty of options, but my anti-malware alarm bell is ringing in my head. Thought I would ask for recommendations from anyone who has already done something like this. I use Ubuntu Natty and Win 7.

Cheers!

DVDs are things of the past, modern pirates rip nothing less than BDs ;).

Post the directory/file structure you have on your DVD (with sizes) and output of MediaInfo ( http://www.codecguide.com/download_other.htm#mediainfo ) for largest files.

Not sure if it's the right thing for what you're doing, but I've used DVD Decrypter before, for the (very) legitimate use ripping, editing, and re-burning :).

I went with k9copy in the end. Top piece of software, easy to use and got the job done fast. Seems the developer has decided not to continue with it, which is a shame
