I would like to know what would be the best way to learn php currently? I`ve seen an online tutorial at php.net is that any good for a so so newbie like me
Can someone tell me what would be good for a beginner ?
if i could gte some urls .. because it seems books go out of date and keep up with the constant upgrading of php these days..
Books don't go that out of date, and generally have a lot more reliable information than you'll find on most web sites. For instance, I learned a lot of my early PHP from http://www.phpfreaks.com/
It's a great site, and full of resources. But after I started learning a lot more about PHP, I realized that an awful lot of their tutorials there are somewhat poorly developed. Some of them teach you to do things the WRONG way... not how you want to get started.
So I would recommend you get ONE good book and then augment that with sites. I personally can vouch for PHP and MySQL Web Development by Welling and Thomson.
The Welling and Thomson book is very good. There is a good entry-level book by (forgive me if butcher the spelling) Julie Melonie.
I found Professional PHP Programming by Castagnetto,Rawat,Schumann,Scollo, and Veliath very helpfull. Wrox publishing, so unsure of it's status, but get it if you can.
