I want to buy a new computer

Post by Cruzado_Mainfrm »

i configured my pc/server(cuz i'll use it for both) for around USD$600.00 without taxes, it's amd, os:red hat, 512mb ram, 40gb HD(duh it's a server, not a downloading place), 17" monitor, etc... is this a good idea?

the website is http://www.ikonpc.com/ and their name is IkonTech

I configured my pc (2.6ghz, 256mb DDR, 180gb, CDRW and DVD, floppy, GeForce FX 5200 256mb, 500w, no monitor) for under $750, and I built it myself.

Build it yourself. You'll get better prices and learn on the way. If you don't care to do that, then I would go a deal such as that.

mine is a:

P4 2.4c Ghz @ 3.16ghz
1gb pc3200 ddr400
custome water cooling job 1/2" tubing (cpu temp under load, hl2 or call of duty under 100% settings, about 34degree c.)
two 250 gb drives
two 120gb drives
one 40 gb 10,000 sata drive (fer windows)
raedeon 9500, softmod to 9700 (shading score is 2341 in 3dmark03)
um... i think thats it, oh and asus p4c800 deluxe mboard
and 17" syncmaster 171v monitor
and obviously dvd rom drive and cdrw and some nice lil lights on the insides, and a window)

all for about $1400

i intend on buying another gig of the exact same ram (2 more sticks of 512mb) and going to get another exact monitor (design and code work is much nicer on dual mons)

I'm interested in a new system also. I was strongly advised not to build my own, even though I know how, from a guy who works at a computer parts store (future shop to be exact). He told me there is no warranty so if anything goes wrong it's garbage.

Should i listen to his advice? I thought it was rather dumb because don't new processors and motherboards come with individual warranties also?

Man... you won't belive my server is an ancient Pentium 90 MHz, with 16 MB (4x4!) with one 1.2 gb drive and no VGA board, no monitor, no keyboard. Just an ISA NE2000 ethernet card. On the ground under my feets! lol... ah, and I got it for free...

Forte abraço,
Scorphus.
