Possible to do POint to Point with wireless?

Hi all,

Ok, hope this is the right place to pose this question.

I want to set up a simple wireless link between my laptop and desktop PC. At the moment, I have a cable connected between them, which then allows the laptop to connect to the internet using internet share with XP. If I got a wireless PCI and PCMCIA card, will I technically be able to do the same thing? I.e, have a wireless point to point from the laptop to desktop?

All help and suggestions greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

As far as file sharing and routing/nat (internet sharing) and protocols like IP and its childs, it makes no difference whether it is wired or wireless, so that will work just fine....

The thing to be aware of with wireless is security, you dont want your neigbours to easily see your files and use your connection... a minimum to do is to set a password/encryption (wep) for the network, such is fairly easy to break so you also want to have a firewalling software on all your wireless machines, limiting what can be done.
All your windows machines user access and shares should be password protected, and all Bill Gates updates applied often and regurarely..
If you can figure out how, it is a good thing to limit all traffic based on the network cards physical MAC addresses as well..

Responding to original question; yes.

Windows (my flavour today) upon installing the wireless ethernet card drivers, also installs some network configuration apps where you can create different accounts for the network. Currently I'm using the 'Home (WAN)' one (you name them yourself) meaning that I use a wireless router to get to the internet aswell as the lan itself.

Earlier today, 'Home (Work)' that blocks access to the net (incomming) and opens VPN tunnels to work.

I have a 'Gaming' also, when the settings is matched to work at a pals house and his router. I can add, tho not needed in my case, a point to point configuration also, connecting to say my server only.

Just bought some heavy wireless equipment some weeks ago, hence all the text. It's so neat. ;)
