Hi
Someone has asked me about their emails and web site hosting.
They registered a domain with Google Apps for Work. But when you login to his account, I don't see
a) how to add further emails
b) how to set up any sort of hosting
c) how to point the domain A record away for hosting elsewhere
Does anyone know about this stuff with Google?

1. There are step by step instructions available through Google by Google
a. You create aliases through google accounts and/or forward your emails from the registered domain
b. You create a separate dedicated user account ($5/month)
2. Google hosting comes in multiple flavors. Google application engine (GAE) is a managed, high performance solution and sans SQL storage is entirely free - you will 99% of the time require at least MySQL. There are many tutorials that walk you through hosting WordPress, Drupal, etc on GAE - search it out as it's not as trivial as uploading to a shared server configured to run most PHP apps. Alternatively you can pay for Google Compute which basically gives you a self-managed VM charged per use (an idle non-busy site costs about $6/month - cheaper than shared hosting). That offering is complicated and you need to be an experienced DevOp or sysadmin, IMO.
3. Domain records will be managed through your registrar (I have never used Google I use GoDaddy) - in any case Google it...I am sure there are plenty of articles.

Ok. We want to point the domain hosting only, outside of Google. Via Google Apps for Work... where do I go to do this, s their navigation and help for this is pretty poor. Well, it doesn't exist.
It tells you what an A Record is, but not how to set it for your existing domain wtih google.

These guys are like the mafia.
I spoke with Google Apps for Business, an they don't handle this kind of thing. Even though it was bought thru them, it's handled by Google Domains, who according to their web site, they don't handle domains outside of the US.
And if you want to ring them, you cannot. You contact them by email etc, and they call you! What a pile of........
