This video is full of pretty bad practices and should be avoided.

Sometimes spending a little bit of money can go a long way. I think this is one of those cases.

I started learning PHP in the age of RealPlayer so books were a better option. There is still tons of very low cost books that teach you the basics and teach it to you properly. Another good option is video through a site such as Udemy or Lynda. Udemy preferably because you buy the course and it's yours for life, no monthly subscription to maintain access.
