Everyone knows how often getting the initial feature requirements from the customer can be a huge PITA. And there is one special, worse case:

  • customer has a process with a predefined workflow and using some tools to achieve it;
  • customer wants to integrate our company services into their workflow, using our company tools and entirely dropping their tools usage;
  • customer tries to mimic the old workflow strictly, instead of getting advantages of the new tools;
  • customer refuses to change the workflow and it doesn't conforms with the new tools feature set;
  • eventually we are forced to implement changes in a very hakish way, just to satisfy the requirements ...

That's what I call the "Pigeon syndrome" and I am sick and tired of it. The initial idea came from IP over Avian Carriers.

PS: Just releasing my anger :)

PPS: Just as an example - customer is using pagers(!) and walkie-talkies for first aid teams, wants to drop them and start using SMS, mobile phones and mobile apps.

There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't
