Unbootable CD-R

A friend of mine was telling me about this collection of CD-Rs and he mentioned he had Mandrake, Knoppix, and Windows XP on CD-R but he accidentally burned them as plain data CDs and not bootable images. He didn't burn the .iso either, just the contents inside the .iso file.

I'd really like to get to try out both Mandrake and Knoppix, and save myself the bandwidth and time downloading both.

Is it possible to extract the data and burn bootable images? Or am I stuck with having to download 'em?

If you have links to related articles that would really help also. Thanks. :)

why not copy the data on the cd to your hardrive, and burn it again as an ISO ?

edit : or did he not burn the installation cd, just the files and whatnot that are created after installation.

He opened up the .iso file and burned everything inside that on the CD.

It even loads properly when you run the setup within Windows, but since it's not an image it won't boot. And that's just what i need, a bootable cd-r.

I'm going to give it a try right now, if it doesn't work the most I lose is 1 good CD-R (a whole $0.75 heh).
