Broadband!

Post by McGruff »

Just got adsl activated yeeehah! The modem is still in the post so fingers crossed there won't be any install problems.

For anyone in UK looking at broadband, check out plusnet. http://www.plus.net. Customer service seems very good, and adsl accounts come with lots of features including 250mb of webspace, shell access and php/mysql.

the rest of europe are so far ahead of the UK in terms of braodband. We are the 3rd world of the broadband world.

Isn't 26mbit available over in sweden now!?

i'll just stick with my 0.5mbit for the time being.

God, you people make Asia sound so slooow <_<.

Heck, 2 Mbit is the fastest for a home user around here.

Where are you at in Asia Nay?

And Asia is pretty slow :D I'm moving to Thailand soon, and I read somewhere that they only have about 72 megabits coming into the whole country. lol

Just read on your site that you moved to Singapore. I lived there for 10 years. I remember when Singapore finally got ADSL (Magix) modems, and even then cable modems weren't popular in many areas. Kinda ironic for being the most wired country in the world.

LOL, country's like Thailand are famous for other things. Heh, enjoy yourself there. Anyhow, I've got a 512 kbps DSL modem and it's crap I tell ya. I was downloading at 250.............bytes per second the other day <_<.

Plus, USB modems are more popular here since the ISP just drops you a USB modem with a CD and walah. Yeah, heck, that's windows. I'm hoping to get a Ethernet modem soon though.

Eeeks...

well.. we in the southeastern portion of kentucky are still on dialup

unless, of course, we want to play 50$ a month extra on our cable bill for 90k download speeds on a cable modem...

Yea, Everytime I visit my grandmother in midwest Texas, her phone lines are rotary/pulse, and I can only dialup at 24.6k at the most. Spent most of my high school either using email through BBS's or dialup to a local ISP. Never understood broadband until I moved to the USA. Dialup isn't bad though, I don't mind it, as long as I have a dedicated phone line with an unlimited account with the ISP, i'm good to go.

Yep, 26mbps is available, but not everyone can get it.

Here in Belgium we have a very good cable distribution.. 95% of us can get it at a very reasonable price...

speed is awsome... (10mBit dl, I can get up to 900Kb/s) upload is a lot less ofcourse.. and we have to face the damn download limit of 10GB

Just for the record, ADSL and 500kb/s is available in the UK for only £25pm - only a tenner more than surf-all-you like dial up. ISPs are falling over themselves to sign you up - deals with free modems and activation etc are easy to find.
