To my mind, "ASP vs PHP" or "PHP sucks" and related issues has been discussed to death and any further discussion bears no importance in anything I do.

But that's just me ;)

Yeah, ASP, PHP, Java, PHP, CF, PHP, CGI, PHP.....

Man, there's a lot to argue about isn't there? ;)

Pyrite wrote:I have a friend who started talking about why PHP sucked and why ASP was better one day. He's actually a php programer himself, but his arguments were ones that I didn't care about anyways. Like php can't handle file uploads bigger than 500 megs or something, nothing I would ever care about.
A lot of the people that I've come across running this squawk have been living of steady diets of Windows IDE's that do an awful lot of hand holding and reduce programming to something akin to snapping lego blocks together. They just want it all easy.

PHP kicks arse becuase it has a lot more flexibility than those dead - end Windows languages and it's the perfect cure for vendor lock in. ASP doesn't run on Linux, Mac, or Unix (Solaris included, SCO excpeted). ANY solution that could be built on top of Windows could also be built with Linux for a fraction of the cost.

And besides, why would someone want to upload 500 meg files? This isn't the kind of thing you want to do over HTTP through a web server anyway. Use FTP or secure copy (SSH).

Sorry to say it mate, but your pal is a dork!

Cheers,

Therefore,

B) I'm just getting started.

Pyrite, I believe he meant to insult his "pal". Therefore, "dork" is a perfectly good use of words. :)

Geek is a good term IMO.. so his pal who likes ASP more should hereon forth be reffered to as "Idiot" "Gates Lover" or "Dork".

Guys STFU

My pal loves/knows php better than me. He wasn't taken sides, he was just stating some techincal arguments. He owns his own LAN Cafe, chances are, he's a tad crafty.

What differenece does it make, and why bother what others say (even if they are dork or not), what matters is this....

I Love PHP, forever

as long you say that, don't listen to anything else, cuz love can be blind...
