Coding Question: PHP w/javascript or vbscript or flash or...

Ok...
I'm kinda new to these forums, so if this is NOT the place for this post, please tell me instead of moving it to some other location... please.
Now then...
I have tons of VB(A) experience. Extremely minimal Flash, Java/javascript, VBScript, PHP, ASP and I am very confident with XHTML and CSS.
My goal is to get into web-app development.
For now tho, I am learning PHP by designing mini-apps as modules for Postnuke. I would 'like' to work on a PHP Card Game for the web but I can't seem to find anything that is strictly PHP for games? Almost all integrate javascript. Now if that is the direction I have to go, I don't mind brushing up on my javascript or Flash if I have to, but I would rather work in something opensource, to avoid legal hassles (something I have heard using Flash can lead to) and I would rather use something that is non-system specific, since javascript has to be coded for netscape AND explorer in order to reach more audiences.
Does anyone know if there is a project in the works... a class file being designed... some sort of javascript/php project that would allow this? Or should I just bite the bullet and brush up on my javascript?
I am new enough to php and javascript both that I just don't know the answer to this question. Any help from the group would be appreciated.
