rules

and I agree. Post what you think the rules for PHP Tennis should be here.

Personally, I think I like the 80-char per line limit. Also, I think volleys should not exceed (original lines) +- (original lines * .25) lines.
Finally, I think, as I said in a post in the quoted thread, that there should be a spirit of "optimization". That is, that each new volley should improve the code in a non-frivolous way, as defined by a peer refereeing system (which we'd have to make the rules for too).
Thoughts?

I think the Red Line rule should be used. The value is selected by the server and denotes how many lines the volleys can be above or below the original number of lines.

The optimization thing is something that I think could be specified by the server; e.g. the difference between a 'serious' or 'meaningful' match (outcome) and just a 'mess about'.

Should there be a max time limit? Otherwise they could go on for ever...

Time?

Post by EricS »

I think that no post in 24 hour should be a foul and end the game. Also, should there be a time limit per player, I mean, can someone volley on 7/7/2002 and then volley on 7/20/2002 and ultimately win the game? Who knows, I'm just throwing up a few balls to think about.

The 24hr rule might be worth considering. Might make it longer though? Like 48?

No player can volley twice in a row. If there is no return to the serve I think the match should just not count. However, if the first voley back from the serve is an error or something, then it counts as an 'ace'.

I think 24 hrs would be more than enough time to declare a match dead. I don't think we're looking to have week-long matches here, unless it gets really good and people are posting all the time.

Yeah, I guess so. 24 will probably do.
